Bedsores is called pressure ulcers and decubitus (a person who is lying down) ulcers or pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores, for example, because of paralysis, illness, old age, or frailty. Bedsores are injuries to skin and underlying tissue resulting from prolonged pressure on the skin. Bedsores happen when any one lie or sit in one position too long and the weight of body against the surface of the bed or chair cuts off blood supply. Bedsores are localized damage to the skin. It is most often develop on skin that covers bony areas of the body, such as the sacrum, coccyx, heels, and hips, though other sites can be affected, such as the elbows, knees, ankles, back of shoulders, or the back of the cranium. So, the sores usually develop over the bony parts of your body. The sores change appearance over 4 stages. The sores look red in stage 1. By stage 4 (the most serious), they are deep and open.
